About Me

I was born in a small town in Canada in a lower middle-class family. My first job was as a paperboy when I was 13-years old delivering daily newspapers in my neighborhood. Since then, I have never been unemployed and that has allowed me to pay for all my formal schooling and provided me with a meaningful career where I get to help people around the world. I began teaching English and Science in two large public Canadian secondary schools in1991 after a brief career in banking. I left Canada in 1997 to begin a career in international schools and worked as teacher and Vice-Principal in Singapore, then as Head of School in Thailand, Tanzania, Cambodia and Vietnam.

I am so grateful to be back in Thailand, in a welcoming culture that I love, leading KIS International School Reignwood Park. Both of my daughters are IB graduates who are now successful businesswomen. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking and fitness activities: swimming, the gym, cycling, hockey and football.

Area of Special Interest

I have now served as an international senior school leader for 27 years. I love the challenge of leading and managing international schools because it is work that really matters and provides the opportunity to have a far-reaching impact upon new generations. My intention is that students in my schools will develop the skills, attitudes and understandings about the world to bring about sustainable positive change that will make the world a better place. It may sound cliché, but I believe it.

One professional area that I am very interested in is standards and accreditation systems for international schools. What I love about the school accreditation process is that I get to visit other schools and see how they are organized and how they operate.  I have always learned valuable lessons for my own schools through visiting and helping other schools.

I have been participating in and leading accreditation visiting teams for international schools in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and here in S.E. Asia for more than 20 years.  These visits have been on behalf of several accreditation agencies: Council of International Schools (CIS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Middle State Association (MSA). I see these volunteer school visits as an opportunity to help other schools on their self-improvement journeys, and I believe that better schools ultimately will lead to positive change in the world. I am also an IBEN Evaluation Leader for the International Baccalaureate.
